How To Turn Anxiety Into Creativity And Feel Better

There comes a time in everyone’s life when we find ourselves in an emotional mess. It is simply one of the things in life we cannot avoid, no matter how hard we try, like taxes and such. As I was saying, there comes a time when we must turn our attention away from the outside world and take a long, long gaze within. What we choose to do next is a very important step. We can either help ourselves grow or sabotage ourselves by trying to ignore it.

In today’s world anxiety is basically part of our daily lives. There are so many stressors out there that it comes to no surprise we become over-saturated with this excess of bad energy- anxiety. Well, it’s not inherently bad, per se, but it can be if we don’t know how to deal with it.

While anxiety can be fueled by different emotions such as sadness, anger and so on, it can also act as a “thing” that rids us of peace, harmony and overall well-being. Not to mention the nasty jittery feeling it oftentimes comes with.

Regardless of how it manifests – and boy can it manifest in myriad ways – we can overcome it through many different means: therapy, drugs, faith etc. But there’s one other way we can deal with it. And that’s what I’m going to discuss in this article.

Get Rid Of Anxiety Through Creativity

One would think that a creative person would need lots of feelings and inspirations in order to create something beautiful. But, ironically, that is exactly the same thing that can block creativity. Still, even so, we can manage to create something if we can manage to channel those feelings outside.

Truth be told, anxiety can serve as an intense catalyst for creation. Simply allow your fears and stress escape through painting, singing, writing, pottery and so on. Let us not forget that some of the most valuable pieces of art made by heavy names were created during times of intense turmoil. So how can we transform anxiety into something creative?

Simply Start Playing

One thing that is quite clear is that forcing yourself to be creative will have no effect at all but to make you totally uncreative. That’s why it is recommended that you start by allowing yourself to be free and play. Enter a child-like state of no boundary and let your imagination run wild and free.

Start daydreaming, do a puzzle, play with your dog. Stare at the clouds or marvel at some flowers. Surely you remember how to do these things since we’ve all done them as children.

Take Care Of Yourself By Taking Care Of Your Body

Many people, when confronting difficult emotions, turn to food for comfort. When we are anxious, we tend to turn to unhealthy foods to boost our moods. A little bit of serotonin never hurt anybody, right? Erm, no. Wrong. Eating junk will not get you very far. In fact, it might get you further away from your destination. So, take care of yourself by keeping an eye on what you put in your mouth.

Just Relax And Do It

There are times when we become blocked in some ways due to the fact that we are obsessing too much on ourselves, or about what it feels like to be anxious. Or even become too focused on the destination rather than the journey. While for some people, this intense attention is productive, for other it can prove to be counterproductive. So, experiment with this as see which one suits you the best.

While channeling your anxiety into some form of “art” can be challenging, keep in mind that it is the process, not the outcome that actually matters. Before you go on and start working on your anxiety, here’s a short list of things you can do to put it on paper – so to speak:

  • pottery
  • painting
  • writing
  • designing
  • jewelry making
  • singing
  • dancing
  • starting up a hobby
